He Paints

I went to Quincy's conference and got nothing but praises. He is reading at above grade level. I hope that continues forever! :) When I started to leave, Q's teacher explained to me that the children are working on a program to be presented in a few weeks. Part of the unit requires the kids to have a cutout of themselves of paper to represent what they want to be when the grow up. Quincy had a really hard time making his decision. Finally, after much deliberation, he made plans to create a police officer. Throughout his entire Spring Break, Quincy begged and pleaded to do his homework.

We rolled out the paper on the floor. He laid perfectly still. I traced his form. He gathered up is paint sets and a jar of fresh water. Patiently, and with much determination, Quincy painted his police man. After the watercolor paints dried, he carefully cut out the shape.

He was so thrilled with his creation. I was proud of him for having the determination to do the assignment and complete it with such care.

Good job, Q!

Vintage Toy Horse

This was the coffee shop where I sat with my sister and my Gramma so many years ago when I decided to decorate my kitchen to look like a coffee shop. E. Steamers was my inspiration.

My sister and my mom and I try to get together every other week for a good cuppa joe and to visit with one another. This time, my hubby got to join us. I really enjoyed just sitting and looking around at all the interesting things to see. I spied this curious little fellow behind the corner. He looked as if he had poked out his head from behind the curtain to see if it was playtime yet.

It's been a tradition for a few years now to hike Castle Rock during Spring break. This year, Rob joined us. The weather was perfect.

Slip Slidin' Away

This is probably not the most flattering photo of me, but the smiles are bright and genuine. Quincy and I had a good time sliding down the inflatable slide. He had a wonderful birthday party with lots of friends and family surrounding him.

Happy Birthday, Q-Man!

She got her ring!

I was at the gym when I got a text message from my future son-in-law. He included a picture of the lovely ring that would symbolize their marriage. He wrote: "Hee hee! Amanda thinks I am at work!" My heart leapt! I was so excited for Amanda! I knew she was so eagerly anticipating receiving this beautiful piece of jewelry.

They went for a hike in Castlewood Canyon where he surprised her with her ring. Afterward, they came by to show me and have a grilled dinner with us.

When they pulled up in the street outside my house, I heard the loud bass bumps, I squealed, "The kids are HERE!" I tore outside and ran to the passenger side of their Dodge Durango. Amanda stepped out and exclaimed, "Look at what I got!" I grabbed her and pulled her close for a bear hug and we both started jumping up and down. I pulled back to see the joy on her face and she was crying great big tears. I was crying great big tears. I said, "I know! I KNOW!" I finally got to really look at the ring. I told her it is GORGEOUS! She wiped a tear from her cheek and she started to tell me the story of how he surprised her with her ring and then gasped, IT WAS PERFECT, MOM!"

What a wonderful, happy day!

Congratulations, Amanda and Brad! I love you both to the moon and back!

March 19 Coffee Tag

We found this beautiful hand-thrown pottery mug at the gift shop in the mini mall at Fort Riley. I absolutely love it. The Kansas state flower is the Sunflower. I didn't know that until this last trip to Kansas.

Birthday Presents!

Today, Quincy turns six years old. This present is from Grampa Mark and Gramma Karen. Quincy was so excited to open this box and discover the Lionel Train Sounds bank inside. Grampa Mark and Gramma Karen even sent a bag of coins for Quincy to drop into the bank and hear the sounds! The gift was a BIG hit!

Kait's asthma was a real issue this game. Sadly, I didn't get a picture of Kait before my camera battery's energy ran out. :(

DFW

At the last minute, I was commissioned to photograph a wedding.....in Wichita, Kansas. The prefect thing about it, was that my husband lives in Kansas! Wait! It gets better! He and I had made plans for him to come to Colorado for our son's sixth birthday that weekend. I got to spend a bit of time with him...and we got a road trip out of the deal. This cellphone snapshot was captured at my gate at DFW airport while I waited for my connecting flight. It was pretty goofy that I got on a plane in Denver, flew to Dallas, then got on another plane and flew into Manhattan, Kansas! The ticket was cheap, though! ;)

Make a Wish

I love making my kids' birthdays as special as they are. They usually choose the dinner menu and what type of cake they want. We have a set of decorations that we hang up for every birthday. But everything else is all about the individual kids. Kaitlyn chose home made cinnamon rolls for breakfast, we went out for lunch and then Kailtyn's choice for dinner was home made Seafood Alfredo on Fettuccine with home made cheesecake for dessert. I really wanted to make home made pasta to break in my new pasta machine, but I ran out of time. Despite the lack of time, the food was delicious!

Something about this photo almost moved me to tears when I saw it. This photo tells such a lovely story. Kaitlyn looks so happy and full of awe with the flames on the tips of the candles. Her brother, Alex, lights the candles and her friend stands beside her. I really love this snap.

Happy Birthday, Kaitlyn. I wish you much happiness this year and can't wait to see you blossom even more into the wonderful individual you are becoming.

Love, Momma

P.S. MAKE GOOD CHOICES!

Invitations

It would seem we have birthday parties on the brain around here. I designed these little invitations on the computer and then had them printed on photo paper. Wal-Mart's photo department worked well since they are so geographically close and affordable. Quincy was really happy with them. He couldn't wait to hand them out at school.

Shopping with Rose....We stopped in at one of my favorite haunts in Castle Rock. The Barn has several little specialty shops. I love to go there every so often and see some pretty things. Rose found some lovely things to put in her home. It was a good afternoon!

Teddy Eyes

Do you remember that Dr. Hook song from the 80's called "Sexy Eyes?" Well, as I was naming this photograph "Teddy Eyes" that song popped into my head. It's okay. You can call me a dork. I already know I have a dorky sense of humor. :)

Afternoon Cuppa

I don't usually drink coffee in the afternoon. The caffeine keeps me awake when I want to sleep.

I think this is one of my all time favorite cell phone shots.

...all sewn together. This project was intended for Valentine's Day. My demanding schedule allowed for it today. It's okay. This is such a cheerful, happy display, it may stay up indefinitely!

Let's Go Fly A Kite

This is the kite we bought with birthday money from Grandpa and Grandma Mitchell. Quincy was so excited to take over and fly the kit all by himself. I love everything about this photograph. You can see even from this angle that his smile stretches all the way across his face.
